About
"Madagascans don't believe in coincidence..."Image" is an anagram for "Magie" and the "magic of the image" brings art to the image through the worship of dream. And what artistic image from the depths of time is not a calling ? Seeking not only to enchant the universe with pleasure but also to break free. In this film "magic" reigns while man depends on mysterious forces which crush him. "Image" takes hold from the moment he has sufficient power over space, time, nature, the body and his desires, and no longer lives in dread. And when one has seen night come down over the high Madagascan plateaux, and the ochre plain glinting with the myriad mirrors of the yet unsown rice-paddies, at that moment when the dust-laden air shot through with the dying rays of the sun cloaks the mountains and the shadow of the man walking there stretches to the horizon, how can one not believe in the force of ancestry ? Ancestors who have the power to bring the stars down to the sea."
(Raymond Rajaonarivelo)
