Synopsis

An archivist named Piétrefond thinks he’s found a descendant of Louis XVI in the person of a simple locksmith, Mennechain, who thus becomes a pretender to the throne fêted by the cream of high society. Mennechain is about to give up his fiancée, when Piétrefond reveals the entire adventure as a swindle.
