Moscow, 1992. Katia is a 34 year-old typist. She leads a somewhat boring life with her husband, Mitia, who is rather insignificant and still very much under the influence of his mother, Irina Dmitrievna, an author who rules the family with an iron hand. Their monotonous life is shared between an appartment in a district of Moscow and their summer datcha. Katia's life is suddenly tranformed by her meeting with Serguei, who becomes her lover. This passion completely changes her personality. Taking advantage of her husband's absence on a business trip, she takes Serguei to the datcha. Of course they are discovered and, with the shock of it all, the mother-in-law collapses with a heart attack. Katia refrains from administering the necessary medicine in time. It's an indirect crime. The husband returns home. The lovers panic. Husband and lover have a violent fight. Mitia, the husband dies and the lovers bury his body in the back garden. Henceforth they are bound together by a crime. Katia is fearless and insists on appearing openly in public with Serguei, even in front of the police. The situation deteriorates. Serguei is sick with fear but also fears the strength of Katia's passion. He leaves. Katia refuses to accept this and her reactions are very violent indeed...
