Complete filmography
BiographyGraduate of the IDHEC, and long-time assistant director, Christian de Chalonge showed his originality and daring in his first film ''O Salto'' (1967) in which he dealt with Portuguese immigration (Jean Vigo Prize). ''L'Alliance'' (1970) selected for the Venice festival, a film on the furthermost boundaries of science-fiction, was also a success, as, despite more virulent reviews, were ''L'Argent des autres'' (1979) starring Catherine Deneuve, Jean-Louis Trintignant and Michel Serrault, which won the Louis Delluc Prize and the 1979 Césars for Best Film and Best Director. Christian de Chalonge then made ''Malevil'' (1980) with Michel Serrault and Jacques Dutronc, ''Les Quarantièmes rugissants'' (1982) with Julie Christie and Michel Serrault, ''Doctor Petiot'' (1989) with Michel Serrault, ''The Thief of Children'' (1991) with Marcello Mastroianni, Michel Piccoli and Angela Molina. His eighth feature was ''Le Bel Eté 1914'' and his ninth, based on the play by Sacha Guitry, stars yet again Michel Serrault, with Charles Aznavour and Maria de Medeiros. Awards |
