The 16th edition of the Shanghai International Film Festival takes place from June 15 through 23, 2013.
Nearly thirty French films and coproductions will be presented, including, for the first time, nine films in a section titled French Panorama, reflecting a similar strand at the Beijing International Film Festival in April. Leos Carax, Frédéric Fonteyne, Lorraine Lévy and her producer Virginie Lacombe, and Mehdi Ben Attia will attend the festival to present their films. Melvil Poupaud will also be there for Laurence Anyways.
Journalist and film critic Michel Ciment is a member of the international jury.
The market (June 17 - 19) continues to develop with the arrival of Nicolas Brigaud-Robert (Films Distribution), Agathe Théodore (Pathé), and Gary Farkas (Wild Bunch). During the market's three days, forums about the film situation in China will also take place.
It is worth noting that the bonds between French and Chinese cinema are becoming reinforced. A coproduction agreement exists and has already contributed to the production of several films (11 Flowers by Wang Xiaoshuai, Le Rossignol by Philippe Muyl, and Le prince et les 108 démons by Pascal Morelli). Last year, EuropaCorp signed up with a new partner, Fundamental, to distribute its films in China, and Pierre-Ange Le Program has recently joined forces with Bruno Wu to develop and produce action films and franchises.
