Unifrance Ordinary and Extraordinary General Assemblies were held this morning at the offices of the Centre National de la Cinématographie (CNC).
Two of the three resolutions proposed at the Extraordinary General Assembly did
not achieve the required 75% majority: a proposal concerning the modification of
association bylaws and a proposal addressing the definition of eligible
producers. A resolution allowing three, instead of two, members of the Artistic
Committee to join the association’s Executive Committee was, however, adopted.
The Ordinary General Assembly approved resolutions concerning the association’s
Activity Report and Financial Report, and the budget for 2008.
Following these Assemblies, the association’s four Councils gathered separately
to elect their Committees. The Film Exporters’ Council and the Directors’,
Actors’, Writers’, and Artists’ Agents’ Council did not elect a Committee. The
Short Film Producers’ and Distributors’ Council elected an interim Committee as
an expression of solidarity with the Directors, Actors, Writers, and Artists. The
Feature Film Producers’ Council elected its required 32 representatives.
These decisions will be submitted for approval at an upcoming meeting of the
Board of Directors, which is expected to make an assessment of the current situation.
As a reminder, Unifrance is an association that was founded in 1949 under the
French law of 1901 governing the status of associations. Unifrance is composed of subscribing members who are feature film or short film producers or exporters, actors, writers, directors, or talent agents. Members are divided into the four Councils previously mentioned.
Each of the association’s Councils elects representatives from among its members to form Committees. The role of these Committees is to put forward and examine appraisals and proposals concerning the association’s activities. They meet at least once every two months.
The association is governed by a Board of Directors composed of 50 members who meet at least twice annually. The Board is managed by an Executive Committee currently composed 12 members (including the President) elected from the association’s Committees.
