Catherine Deneuve in Australia

For the first time in her career, Catherine Deneuve will travel to Australia to support the commercial release of one of her films.

On the occasion of the 19th Alliance Française French Film Festival, Unifrance is providing travel assistance for Catherine Deneuve to attend the event in Australia to promote After Him, a film by Gaël Morel. Distributed by Palace Films, the film is slated for release in Australia on March 27.

Catherine Deneuve took part in a press conference in Sydney on the day of her arrival in Australia, on Saturday, March 15. That evening, Ms Deneuve presented the first public screenings of After Him at the Norton Street Palace Cinema.
Catherine Deneuve’s Australian tour continues today in Melbourne, where she will meet with members of the public and take part in a second press conference.
The actress will then travel to Canberra, the Australian capital, on Thursday, March 20, to attend the opening of the festival.
Unifrance has provided its support to this traveling film festival for a number of years now, and each year witnesses the event’s growing popularity and success. From March 5 through April 6 this year, around 30 French titles will be showcased in theaters in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide, and Perth.

French cinema is currently enjoying increased popularity in the Australian theatrical market, with both audiences and industry professionals showing a healthy interest in French fare. The 25 French films released in Australia in 2007 attracted over 1.3 million spectators, including 1.1 million admissions to French-language films.
