Jacques Audiard's name on everyone's lips in the USA
Since its release in the United States on July 6, "Read My Lips" by Jacques Audiard has steadily gained ground at the box office.
In its 8th week on U.S. screens, "Read My Lips" (French title: "Sur mes lèvres") has raked in $70,000 in its 35 theaters, bringing it to a total of over $925,000 to date.
The film has clearly benefited from excellent word of mouth publicity, spurred on by visits from numerous artists since the Toronto Festival in 2001, as well as the Rendez-vous with French Cinema Today held by Unifrance in March 2002 and a visit to Los Angeles by its director early July.
This fine campaign can be credited to the distributor, Magnolia Pictures, who have their sights set on reaching the $2 million mark with the film. It is worth mentioning that the press continued to focus attention on the film throughout the month of July. Following in Hitchcockian footsteps according to the New York Times, the film starring Emmanuelle Devos and Vincent Cassel has inspired rave reviews from high level American critics (including The New York Post, The New York Observer, The Village Voice, Time Out, The Sunday Times and The Daily News).
"Read My Lips" was produced by Philippe Carcassonne (CineB) and Jean-Louis Livi (SEDIF), with international sales handled by Pathé International.
