The debut feature film by Agnès Jaoui continues its international career, with 15 prints released in Polish theaters on March 8 (International Women's Day!) "The Taste of Others" has attracted more than 15,000 spectators in its first weekend on the screens, representing a higher spectators-per-print average than Woody Allen's "The Curse of the Jade Scorpion," which has 17 prints in circulation.
Its distributor, Roman Gutek, a loyal supporter of French films, pulled off a successful launch for the film, inviting the actress/director to a preview screening in Warsaw, with support from Unifrance and the French Embassy. Gutek offered the film the kind of media exposure seldom enjoyed by French films in Poland. Spurred on by the standout performance of "Amelie," the most successful French film of the decade (released in October,) Gutek is determined that the films he buys benefit from media promotion, still all too often denied French films released in the country.
