"Amelie" has won the Best Original Screenplay award, for Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Guillaume Laurant, as well as the award for Best Production Design, for Aline Bonetto, at the British BAFTA Awards.
The film had already raised some eyebrows, having been nominated in an impressive 9 categories, after achieved enormous success across the Channel. It was nonetheless the Mexican film "Love's a Bitch" that walked off with the award for Best Foreign Film.
"Amelie" was also nominated for 13 Cesar awards in France (with the award winners to be announced March 2), as the time draws near for the Academy Awards late March, for which the film is in the running for 5 awards.
