After a slowdown in subscriber growth at the start of 2021, the challenge for global platforms is now to build loyalty in their existing customer base. Recent developments in the VOD sector have also been affected by the merger between the WarnerMedia and Discovery networks, as well as Amazon's acquisition of MGM.
The VOD market is no longer limited to subscription platforms. AVOD providers continue their expansion, bringing added competition for the pay-services. Among these providers, linear AVOD services have succeeded in winning over new audiences with their offer of free access to program libraries.
