Faced with the issues at stake in the international market and within the context of reforms to its funding mechanisms for short films and for film exports, the CNC has decided to reinforce its support for the international promotion of short film formats and for the structuring of the international sales sector by accompanying private commercial companies working within the field.
To this end, the CNC has entrusted UniFrance, whose Short Film Department coordinates all activities in favor of these works abroad, with the management of this aid on an experimental basis for three years. The funding aims to enable, in particular, the exploration of new markets, the development of technical and promotional tools, and any other initiative of a kind to increase the distribution and sales of short films internationally. A summary about the effectiveness and the incentive effect of the aid will be produced at the end of 2021.
The mechanism is placed under the European Union Commission Regulation (EU) No. 1407/2013 of December 18, 2013, on the application of Articles 107 and 108 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union to de minimis aid; the official regulation is available via the following link: https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/FR/TXT/PDF/?uri=CELEX:32013R1407&from=FR
