This year, with support from MEDIA, Italy's National Short Film Centre will host the first film market dedicated to short-format productions, held as a sidebar event during the Turin - International Film Festival (November 18-26, 2016).
The Unifrance Short Film Department has been invited to inaugurate the event by its organizers. Our Short Film Department will thus be in attendance at this new film market in Turin, along with a French delegation that includes up-and-coming distributors (Louisa Taabni, representing Shortcuts, Luce Grosjean, from Miyu Distribution), and representatives from state institutions (Philippe Germain for the CICLIC).
Held in parallel with the main event, these professional meetings and pitch sessions will be interspersed with festival screenings between Friday, November 18, and Sunday, November 20. Discussions and debates will be moderated by prominent industry figures, such as Enrico Vannucci and Mauro Gervasini, program directors for the Venice International Film Festival.
A particularly interesting initiative organized by RAI, Italy's leading broadcaster, is worth highlighting here. The network, which is also currently the most active buyer of European short films, is organizing a competition that aims to facilitate the transition from short films to feature films by enabling new generation filmmakers to develop a short film into a project for a feature film, with support provided by acclaimed professionals in the movie industry.
