The Franco-Turkish director gains added international recognition with her inclusion in the American magazine's list of leading figures in the international filmmaking scene.
The highly influential trade magazine Variety has just published its list of 10 Directors to Watch for 2016, which features a mix of both American and international studio and independent directors.
The list includes Deniz Gamze Ergüven, whose debut feature Mustang, a majority French co-production (CG Cinéma), is in the running for the Oscars 2016, where it will represent France.
A special standalone issue of Variety to be released on December 29 will profile each of these emerging international filmmakers, who will be honored in person at the upcoming Palm Springs International Film Festival.
