Ronald comes back home in shock, numb with fear. To his mother, he spills out the story : on the beach, the girl who pushed him off, ran away, fell, hit a rock... and died. To give safe refuge to her only son, mother fixes up a hiding place overnight in an old, disused bathroom under the stairs. The police don't find him. In the morning, his mother doesn't come home. Ronald lives through agonies of uncertainty, until he finds out through the police that his mother has died of a heart attack and her son is presumed to be on the run...
