Biography

Pierre Olivier Scotto is very much a man of the theater. After training under Jean-Paul Roussillon, Antoine Vitez and Marcel Bluwal at the Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique in Paris, he joined the Comédie Française where he spent five years developing his craft. He left this to set up his own company, Le Théâtre de l’Escalier d’Or, where emphasis was given to contemporary productions. He went on to make a documentary “Lourdes, Bernadette et les autres…” with Bruno Decharme and Isabelle Guiard (producer Philippe Dussart). He has also acted in film and television with numerous directors including Jacques Fansten, Michel Winn, Edouard Molinaro, Claude Zidi, Claude Weiss, Christian de Chalonge, Claude Loursais, Roger Kahane, Michaël Lindsay-Hogg, Serge Meynard and Philippe Setbon. Scotto is also a playwright and he wrote his first play “Le Mal de Mère” in 1996. Françoise Seigner directed Scotto and Tsilla Chelton in the play that was performed over 400 times at the Madeleine and Palais-Royal theaters in Paris. It was nominated for three 1997 Molières (Best New Play, Best Author, Best Actress) and has been translated and performed throughout the world.
The play became a film: Scotto adapted it and Edouard Molinaro (one of the cast that included Martine Feldmann and Philippe Lasry) directed it. This was followed in 1999 by a second play “Le Ciel est Egoïste ?”, co-written by Martine Feldmann, and starring Tsilla Chelton, Françoise Seigner and Stéphane Bierry. It was directed by Pierre Aufray.
During the 2000-2001 season, Scotto and fellow actor Thierry Beccaro performed “Faux Frère(s)”, a play he co-wrote with Martine Feldmann, who also directed it. He directed, shot and starred in his first feature, adapted from David Decca’s play “Le Roman de Lulu”, in 2001. Produced by Lambart Productions, the film’s cast also includes Thierry Lhermitte, Claire Keim and Patrick Bouchitey.
