Biography

After high school, Serge Meynard was by turns gas-station attendant, copy editor and paste-up artist (for a medical review). He put his earnings into short films. Then he became an assistant director and worked with Pierre Zucca, Patrice Chéreau, Peter Brook, Volker Schlöndorff, Chantal Akerman, and James Ivory. He has made roughly ten films for television, including «L'Inconnue» (1999), «Danger d'aimer» (1998), «Le Cri du corbeau» (1997), and «Le Sang du renard» (1996). He has also published three novels: «Lapin Dixit-Le Poulpe» (Editions Baleine), «Entre les lignes» (1997: Editions Baleine) and «Dans le Doubs, Absinthe-toi!» (1998: Editions Pont Médicis). Meynard directed his first feature in 1988, «L'Oeil au beur(re) noir,» which won a César for best first fiction film. In 1992, he made his second feature, «The Weaker Sexes,» starring Valérie Lemercier and François Cluzet. «Voyous, Voyelles» is Meynard's third feature
