"Asterix" hits number 1 in Germany
With 466,370 tickets sold after its first weekend in German theaters, "Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra" has shot to the top at the box office. And since "Brotherhood of the Wolf" is holding nicely in 9th place, that makes two French films making their mark in the Top 10 in Germany this week – a historix moment!
Launched on March 7 by the distributor Tobis StudioCanal, with 705 prints in circulation, the film by Alain Chabat has certainly found its audience in Germany. With 466,370 spectators registered, the film boasts a healthy average of 661 spectators per print, way out in front of the number 2 film, "A Beautiful Mind" (215,314 admissions.)
Prior to its release, the local press had already prepared a warm welcome for Asterix:
"Par Toutatis! Terrific! An action-packed sequel. Vene, vidi, very funny! Come, see, and laugh your head off! Quite simply delicious, those Gauls!" (Bild)
