First Movie, Day One: Five French filmmakers offer guidance on Shooting Day 1

For the series initiated by UniFrance, entitled French Director's Touch, Olivier Assayas, Bertrand Tavernier, Anne Fontaine, Emmanuelle Bercot, and Bruno Dumont take the role of advisers to first-time directors, captured in the 1-minute video First Movie, Day One.

"Don't try to please" "Don't do it the way you've been told to do it" "Don't try to hide your uncertainties" "Spend a long time working on your screenplay, to the point of forgetting it" "Don't do it the Film School way"...

These are some of the tips given by the five renowned French filmmakers who were willing to lend their talents to helping first-time directors.

And they give more than advice, also sharing the way they see their vocation as filmmakers and giving insight into the challenges, the anxieties, and joys they experience.
