Argentina: “Angels of the Apocalypse” riding high in Buenos Aires
Released November 18 by Quasar Films on 26 prints, “Crimson Rivers 2: Angels of the Apocalypse” attracted 20,700 spectators in its opening week and jumped to 5th place at the Argentinian box office.
This fine performance of the film by Olivier Dahan, renamed “Rios de color purpura 2” for local audiences, is all the more remarkable considering the fierce competition at this time. “Angles of the Apocalypse” outscored two current local hits, “No sos vos soy yo” and “Peligrosa Obsesion,” as well as the American blockbusters, “Shark Tale,” “The Manchurian Candidate” and “Exorcist: The Beginning,” films with forceful marketing campaigns and a larger number of prints released.
Compared to the same period in 2003, and within a context of falling movie attendance in Argentina, the launch of this film is highly promising for French productions. Quasar Films can already pride themselves on a 30.69% increase in admissions against last year’s results, as well as a per-print average for this second episode of the “Crimson Rivers” that is higher than for the first film directed by Mathieu Kassovitz and distributed by Columbia TriStar Pictures. “Crimson Rivers 2: Angels of the Apocalypse” thus looks set for a bright career in Argentina.
