Synopsis

1970 : The Old Market Theater is full. A strange, new play called "THE ETERNAL LOVERS," written by, directed and starring Roland Pikas has just begun. As the first act commences a fire breaks out in the historic theater. Pikas and his wife, Madeleine, disappear in the blaze. Their infant daughter, Amira, survives. 1990 : Stephane Marie, a celebrated director who will never forget having witnessed the tragic premiere, yearns to rebuild the theater and restage the play. He wants to cast Amira in a leading role. To convince her, Stephane lures her to the burntout shell of the old theater, where Amira comes face to face with her father, now a disfigured vagrand who haunts what remains of the building. Pikas insists that Stephane cast a derelict named L'Homme in the lead. Stephane agrees. Between Amira and L'Homme a fierce passion is born. As they rehearse the play, it becomes clear that the text itself is magical. Drawn from an alchemist's recipe that contains the secret for transforming matter, bizarre things begin to take place, and the subterranean world of myths and dreams overcomes reality...
