Marie (Bulle Ogier) has just got out of prison and can no longer stand living between four walls; Baptiste (Pascale Ogier) comes, so she says, from elsewhere and fully intends to remain on the edges of all established circuits. Their paths cross three times in a matter of a few hours. For Baptiste, this is a sign of fate: she now feels that she is obliged to accompany Marier and to protect her. But the perils that lie in store for Marie are not the kind that Baptiste's vigilance can fend off. Marie, now free, has only one goal: to find Julien (Pierre Clémenti) again. However, Julien has just accepted, as security against a gambling debt, to transport a briefcase. At first glance, there's nothing particularly unusual about it, a few press cuttings, a map of Paris.
