In the first years of the reign of Hassan II, Houcine, a fan of the new king, is the conductor of a people's orchestra and the delighted father of Mimou. Houcine takes his role very seriously and wants the best for his son. Right from primary school, he expects Mimou to be the first and best in his class. If Mimou is successful, Houcine will reward him.
Houcine and his family live in the family home of his wife, Halima. The house is a place of lively cohabitation: a gallery of highly colorful characters cross paths there to the rhythm of the life of the orchestra and of its traditional dancers (the Chikates). This orchestra is special: the male musicians sometimes have to pretend to be blind in order to perform at conservative Moroccan family parties reserved for women.
But Mimou quickly crosses paths with Chama, the neighbor's new maid... He immediately falls in love with her and senses something beginning to change within himself. Reality and dream mingle. Under the spell of this love, he can no longer concentrate on school and is no longer first in class. In order not to disappoint his father, he will cheat by faking his school report.
