Frank and Madeleine are an elderly and happy couple, whereas their friend Max has a steady stream of girlfriends. After Madeleine’s sudden death, Frank feels totally lost, particularly as her demise recalls that, even more unbearable, of their young son killed during the Algerian War. His daughter and Max each take him in, but it is his encounter with Suzanne that will renew his taste for life. She’s not of his world, or his age, but will be his last love.
