Synopsis
“You owe the Treasury Department the sum of 1,991,753 euros. And all you own is Neuville Castle, a decrepit shack that you live in with your large family.”
Several solutions are at hand for Count Charles Valerand d’Arbac de Neuville, his wife, Solonge, born Poitou Castilla of the Molehill, and their forebears and offspring in a more or less direct line:
Fleeing abroad, plastic surgery, changing their names, staggering their debt over 271 years, suicide...
They therefore attempt the impossible (aside from the notable exception of working) to hold on to their ruin of a castle, the symbol of a fragile, but nevertheless tenacious, existence.
So begins a crazy voyage of discovery and search for identity to the core of real life. A stressed-out banker, an aristocrat-loathing bailiff, noble upstarts, skinflint cousins, very public transport…
Today, only the nobility is revolutionary!
