Patients flow through his surgery, one after the other. Each person comes to set down his or her pain, happiness, and questions, because we “often need a doctor more than we need medicine.” As we participate in these appointments, a new image of the doctor’s role emerges. He is no longer just expected to treat or cure illness, but must diagnose anxious humanity, with its worries, dysfunctions, and discomfort. The resulting portrait is sharp and amusing, a musing with political overtones set against a background of singular and intimate stories. Festival selections |
