Modigliani

A Feature film by Mick Davis

Release in France : 29/09/2004

    Synopsis

Paris 1919. The capital overflows with a desire to live and throbs to the rhythm of stormy passions. Montparnasse is now the center of the art and literary scene. Picasso and Modigliani cross paths at La Rotonde Cafe. A rivalry exists between these two geniuses who nevertheless admire and respect each other. It's a rivalry full of arrogance: Pablo Picasso is already famous, and Amedeo Modigliani, whose paintings don't sell, could care less.
Beautiful Jeanne Hébuterne is in love with Modigliani. Her father, a fervent Catholic, is against his daughter's relationship with the Jewish painter. When they have a child together, he shunts her off to a convent on the quiet.
At the same time, Paris is getting ready for the major art competition of the year. The winner will receive a large sum of money and, above all, the guarantee of a prestigious career. Neither Picasso nor Modigliani have ever agreed to participate.
But Modigliani is broke, and he and Jeanne want to save their child. For the first time, he accepts to participate in the competition. Picasso follows suit. The news spreads like wildfire and all of the Paris art world is on the edge of its seat. Picasso's wife, Olga, will be the source of inspiration for his painting. Jeanne will inspire Modigliani. The duel will be magical...
