Synopsis
The action takes place in the French West Indies, in 1848, a few months after the abolition of slavery. We witness a day in the life of an officer of the Ministry of Colonies, whose job is to attribute names to sixty freed slaves. This is the first day as free citizens for the slaves. For the officer, this particular day ends very badly indeed.
