Synopsis
Salome works in one of Lisbon's most famous brothels whose clientele consists of the city's most upstanding citizens. One day, Sertorio Cerqueira, a businessman, falls madly in love with Salome and sets her up in her own apartment. However, during a swank party, she meets and falls in love with Gabriel, a young Republican poet. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Braz, a regular at the brothel, recognizes Salome and provokes a scandal. Profoundly humiliated, she decides to leave Lisbon and to return to her hometown, Fatima, where her arrival causes quite a commotion for three young shepards.
