Daniel Boltanski is famous throughout the world under the literary pseudonym of Serge Novak. He lives with his very beautiful wife, Nicoletta, an Italian lawyer whose son Fabrizio, born from another marriage, is getting married on Capri.
Daniel has always been determined to live out of the public eye, above all for prudence’s sake because he fears that the adventures that he’s obsessed with hiding will be revealed. They’re adventures that are similar to those that the hero of his famous novel “A Winter Voyage” goes through.
His literary agent constantly acts as a screen so that Daniel can live incognito, far from his fans. On the boat that takes him to Capri, Daniel encounters Mila, a young woman with whom he spends a passionate night. Then, once Fabrizio and his wife have exchanged marriage vows, Daniel discovers that the new bride is none other than Mila. She becomes his obsession.
He starts to lead a double life, troubled by the existence of a blackmailer who threatens to expose his relationship, along with others that date back more than twenty years to when he was in Poland.

Strange Crime by Roberto Ando (Le Prix du désir, France/Italy/Germany/Switzerland, 2004, 105 min.). A psychological drama that pits passion against fidelity, Strange Crime is the story of Daniel Boltanski (Daniel Auteuil), a famous author. He lives with his beautiful wife, Nicoletta (Greta Scacchi), an Italian lawyer whose son Fabrizio, from another marriage, is to be married in Capri. On the boat taking him to the wedding, Daniel spends a passionate night with a young woman, Mila (Anna Mouglalis), who turns out to be his stepson’s bride-to-be. She becomes his obsession, and Daniel begins to lead a double life, troubled by the existence of a blackmailer who threatens to expose his relationship, along with others that date back more than 20 years, to when he was in Poland.
