Synopsis
One night Fatma, a teenager living in Sfax, is raped by her cousin.
Although she decides to keep quiet about it, Fatma is far from resigned: she wins her first battle and goes to study in faraway Tunis.
No longer held back by family constraints, Fatma’s life takes on a whole other dimension: she is free to question, discover, experience new things.
She gets a job teaching in Soundous, a remote village, where she meets Aziz, a brilliant and open-minded doctor. Fatma wants to marry the man she loves and decides to get her hymen sewn together again.
However, in a conventional and hostile society, their relationship puts Fatma and Aziz in a very dicey situation.

About
“This film is based on a true story. I wanted to make film that, like my country, could be understood on many levels. Fatma’s personality is shaped by her encounters with people and places. Tunisian women are still confronted with the urgent need to speak out. Speaking out is the best way to resist a nostalgic revival of practices that make women subservient. May this film be a modest contribution to that speaking out." Khaled Ghorbal
