A coronary prompts 75-year-old Giuseppe into paying for an operation to restore sight to his blind 7-year-old granddaughter, Carla. When his attempts to raise money in his Italian village are greeted with failure, he decides to return to Switzerland where he’d previously worked as a foreman for thirty years. He takes Carla along – without her family’s knowledge. It’s there in Geneva, his old haunt, that he’ll have to face up to a series of confrontations with friends from his past.
