Adrienne Mark is one of the "world's most famous women". Adulated novelist, militant humanist, she belonged to that handful of artists and philosophers who would profoundly influence sixties culture. Of French nationality and Jewish descent she epitomized the highest hopes of modernity for a new life and radical change. Yet today, Adrienne in her turn feels outmoded. She no longer recognizes the world she helped to forge, nor that America which was for many years her second home. Urged on by her agent, the novelist decides that it's time to return to Paris to try to buy the house where she spent her childhood...

"(...) Ever serene, Jeanne Moreau makes the emotional weight of these memories almost tangible for us through her simple obstination in sweeping away whatever obstacles that may stand in the way of her desire; through the mere intensity of her happiness with which every instant of recognition of furniture, odours, books and sounds is imbued; through the naturalness with which she redicovers the gestures of her early adolescence when she would return home without a care. Jeanne Moreau, without speaking, almost without doing, leads us on to these happy times past, now present once more. By her very bearing she suffuses our heart and soul with light. Nostalgia drives her to act; vitality blossoms in indulgence. Espousing calm fantasy, mature passion, accountable freedom, she is the very epitome of accomplished civilisation. (...)"
