The Line of the Horizon

A Feature film by Fernando Lopes

Produced by Caméras Continentales

Release in France : 24/11/1993

    Synopsis

Spino works in a morgue in Lisbon. One night, the corpse of an unknown man is brought in, who physically appears to be none other than Spino himself. A breathtaking police investigation verges on the fantastic. The film is an adaptation of a book by Antonio Tabucchi, recreating the universe of Portuguese poe Fernando Pessoa.
Spurred by the brutal shock of recognizing himself in the dead man, Spino conducts a deadly investigation of his own into the identity of this "other" self.
Caught up in his own obsession, Spino begins following a maze of trails, constantly stepping up the pace, losing contact with reality.
All those who know Spino are amazed at his behaviour. Only his lover Francesca understands - too late, alas - that Spino has heard the call of the sirens. Answering that call, he has embarked on the most fantastic and inevitable of all voyages, racing headlong to a liberating confrontation with his own death on the excuse that he is seeking not himself but "another".
Lisbon, with its countless mysterious alleys and stairways, lovingly hosts Spino's ultimate and "orgasmic" headlong encounter.
