How did the whole thing start ? If you want to know why Simon and I took off from the old man's place, why we sleep rough on the beach and raid stores, why "mother" left, and all about that mix-up with Marie, don't expect me to tell you. The less I think about it, the better I feel. However, I can tell you why a goldfish never turns on a curve like everyone else. It just swims along and then, all of a sudden, zip, it turns, on the spot. Zip !... Why do I know that ? Because I'm Martin Vanderhoes, the shark's son. And to understand that, you have to suffer a lot, and dream a lot too, because people who don't dream, well they just as well might be dead... Right, Simon ? Stop yapping and start the movie. Open the goddam curtains !...
