Biography

Francis Veber's career began in the theater with the play "L'Enlèvement," which he wrote himself. Besides scripting a host of very successful French movies ("The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe," "A Pain in the A…," "Hothead"), he directed his first feature film, "The Toy," in 1976. The character he created for the film, François Perrin (played by Pierre Richard), also appeared in subsequent films: "The Goat," "Les Compères" ("ComDads") and "Three Fugitives." Jacques Villeret and Daniel Prévost were awarded the 1999 Cesar Awards for Best Actor and Best Actor in a Supporting Role for their respective performances in "The Dinner Game," Veber's eighth feature. It also won Veber the Best Screenplay Award, and was a major success both in France and abroad. His next film, “The Closet,” starring Gérard Depardieu, Michèle Laroque, Danièle Auteuil and Thierry Lhermitte, was released in 2001and was also widely acclaimed at home and abroad.
