Biography

Jean-Pierre Améris was born in Lyon, and it was here that he shot his first three short films between 1980 and 1983. In 1984, he began his studies at the IDHEC film school in Paris, and after graduating in 1987, he returned to Lyon. He shot another three short films, one being "Interim" (1987), which was awarded the Grand Prize at the 1988 Clermont-Ferrand Festival of Short Film. He went on to make television documentaries, and directed his first feature, "The Marriage Boat," in 1992. The film was selected for several international festivals, winning, among other prizes, the Youth Jury Prize at the Tübingen Film Festival. TV dramas and documentaries followed until he made his second theatrical feature "Les Aveux de l'innocent," multiple prizewinner at the Cannes International Film Festival: Critics' Week Prize, Youth Jury Prize and the Rail d'Or. His latest feature, "Bad Company," was released in French cinemas in 1999.
