Biography

Patrick Chesnais enters the National Drama School at the age of 18 and wins the Drama First Prize in 1968. The next ten years he dedicates himself to theatre. His movie career begins in 1976, directed by Jacques Rozier in The Castaways of Turtle Island (1976).
In the early 80’ he plays many atypical characters, in The Imprint of Giants by Robert Enrico(1980), The Girl from Lorraine by Claude Goretta (1981) or Les Sacrifiés by Okacha Touita (1983). In 1989, Patrick Chesnais is awarded with the Best Supporting Actor Cesar Award for The Reader by Michel Deville also starring Miou-Miou. In the late 80’, he appears in popular comedies such as Les Cigognes n’en font qu’à leur tête and Promotion canapé both directed by Didier Kaminka. In 2000, he directs Charming Fellow for which he wins the Alain Poiré Award of Best Director at the St-Jean de Luz Film Festival.
Since then, he works with the new generation of French directors such as Manuel Poirier (Te Quiero), Rémi Waterhouse, (The Landlords) in 2002 or more recently Tu vas rire mais je te quitte by Philippe Harel in 2004.
In 2005; he stars in the much welcomed Not Here to Be Loved by Stéphane Brizé.
