Virginie Ledoyen appeared in TV spots as a child, notably for the brands Buitoni and Air Inter and in the video clip "L'Aziza" by Daniel Balavoine. At 10, she made her first steps in film in an Italian film entitled "Exploits of a Young Don Juan" (1987), but it was Philomene Esposito who gave her a first leading role in 1991 in "Mima". After having played in the unfinished Marcel Carne "La Mouche", she appeared in "The Groundhogs" (1993) by Elie Chouraqui and "Cold Water" (1994) by Olivier Assayas, and was nominated for the Most Promising Young Actress Cesar for both films.
Daughter from a good family in "La Cérémonie" by Claude Chabrol, she put on the charm as a pop singer in "Héroïnes" (1997), and again in the musical comedy "Jeanne and the Perfect Guy" (1998), then enchanted Gerard Lanvin in "In All Innocence" (1998), the remake of "In Case of Adversity". She became a L'Oreal girl in 1999, and gained international fame in the adventure film "The Beach" (2000) by Danny Boyle starring Leonardo DiCaprio.
Assuring a capacity for versatility, she played in the film noir "All About Love" by Jean-Francois Richet, the burlesque comedy "8 Women" by François Ozon, mingled with Gerard Depardieu and Isabelle Adjani in "Bon voyage" (2003) and then a fantasy film entitled "House of Voices" (2004). Hoping to increase her international profile in " The Backwoods" and "Love and Virtue", Virginie Ledoyen is often considered a romantic young actress in France as seen in "The Valet" (2006), "Shall We Kiss?" (2007) and "London mon amour" (2008).
