Biography

It's an indisputable fact that Bertrand Blier is one of the most provocative French directors of his generation. In 1973, he "discovered" the young Gérard Depardieu when he offered him his first big role (in tandem with Patrick Dewaere) in "Going Places." In 1978, "Get Out Your Handkerchiefs" won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. This was followed in 1979 by the enormous international success of "Cold Cuts," a film awarded the Cesar for Best Screenplay. He continued to collect Cesars with "Our Story" (1983), won four with "Too Beautiful for You" (1988), not to mention "Evening Dress" in 1986, which was one of his biggest international hits. Bertrand Blier has constantly developed his style and themes throughout his career, finding inspiration most recently in the actress Anouk Grinberg, who he has cast in "Thank You, Life" (1990), "1,2,3, Sun" (1992, which won two prizes at the Venice Film Festival), and "My Man" (1996). His latest film, "Actors," features France's most famous stars: Jean-Paul Belmondo, Alain Delon, Jean-Pierre Marielle, Pierre Arditi, André Dussollier, Jean-Claude Brialy…
