Biography

Mathieu Kassovitz made three short films - including "Assassins"(1992), before directing his first feature, "Métisse" in 1993. He also made his acting debut in the film. Mathieu Kassovitz was rewarded both as a director and an actor since the film won the Special Jury Prize at the Paris Festival, was selected for the Venice Festival and was nominated for the 1994 Césars as Best First Film. As an actor, he was awarded the Most Promising Young Actor Prize at the Paris Festival and was nominated for the 1994 Césars as Most Promising Young Actor.

The following year, 1995, brought Mathieu Kassovitz a host of awards (at the age of only 28): a César for Most Promising Young Actor and the Jean Gabin Prize for his performance in Jacques Audiard's "Regarde les hommes tomber" (1994), Best Director Prize at the 48th Cannes Festival for his second feature "La Haine" that went on to win Césars for Best Film and Best Editing and is now seen as a landmark of French cinema.

"Assassin(s)" is his third feature.
