Biography

Josiane Balasko started out as an actress in cabaret-style theater, most notably with the Splendid Theater company. She appeared in the movies "Le Père Noël est une ordure," "French Fried Vacation," "Men Prefer Fat Girls" and "Too Beautiful for You" by Bertrand Blier, in which her performance opposite Carole Bouquet brought her unanimous acclaim and fame. She also worked as scriptwriter on "Retour en force" by Jean-Marie Poiré (1979) and "Next Year If All Goes Well" by Jean-Loup Hubert (1981). She directed, wrote and starred in "All Mixed Up" (1985), "Les keufs" (1987), "My Life Is Hell" (1991), and the international smash hit, "French Twist" (1995). Her fifth and latest film, “A Big Scream of Love," was the screen version of a play which she wrote and starred in herself. Meanwhile, Balasko pursues her acting career; she stars in Gabriel Aghion's latest film, "The Libertine."
