Complete filmography
BiographyJean-François Richet grew up in a public housing project in the Parisian suburb of Meaux. He worked for several years in a factory, an episode of his life that became the basis for his films. He made a very politically committed first feature, “Etat des lieux,” in 1995, which talks of working class existence and that he produced for 150,000 francs. The film was selected for several festivals (Avoriaz, New York…) and nominated for the César for Best Debut Feature.
He continued down the political, social realist path with “Ma 6-t va crack-er” (1997), in which he also performed, alongside non-professional actors. The shoot, which took place in the projects, proved difficult, and it would take two years for the director to finish his film.
In his third feature, “All About Love,” he told a tale based on a real-life event in the projects, starring Virginie Ledoyen, Jean-François Stévenin, and Bruno Putzulu. In 2004, he made the move to America and directed “Assault on Precinct 13,” a remake of John Carpenter’s classic movie, with the prestigious cast of Ethan Hawke, Laurence Fishburne, Maria Bello, and Gabriel Byrne. He’s currently preparing “L’ennemi public numéro 1,” which recounts the life of France’s most wanted gangster, Jacques Mesrine. The planned cast: Vincent Cassel and Alain Delon.
