Biography

Gérard Depardieu is one of the most famous French actors, constantly working from the early 70’.
He works with the most renowned directors: Bertrand Blier (Going Places (1973) alongside Patrick Dewaere he works again with in Get Out Your Handkerchiefs (1977); Cold Cuts (1980), Tenue de soirée (1986), Too Beautiful for You (1989); François Truffaut (The Last Metro, opposing Catherine Deneuve, that wins him a Best Actor César Award in 1981; The Woman Next Door; with Fanny Ardant (1981); Francis Veber (he forms a famous comic duo with Pierre Richard in Knock On Wood and The Buddies); Maurice Pialat (Loulou (1980), Police (1986) and Under Satan’s Sun (1987).
In 1993, Gérard Depardieu stars in Claude Berry’s Geminal and is Cyrano de Bergerac (Jean-Paul Rappeneau (Best Actor Cannes Award 1990 & Best Actor César Award 1991) and more recently he impersonates Obélix in Astérix and Obélix versus Cesar by Claude Zidi and again in Astérix and Obelix, Mission Cleopatra by Alain Chabat.
In 1984, Gérard Depardieu directs and stars in his first feature Le Tartuffe.
In 1999, he co-directs with Frédéric Auburtin, The Bridge, adaptation of Alain Leblanc’s eponym novel. For this film, Gérard Depardieu is producer as well as actor alongside Carole Bouquet.
Versatile actor, he easily goes from comedy to drama, from screen to theatre, exposing his talent before the camera of French directors as well as International cinematographers’.
