Jacques Weber began staging plays at the early age of eleven. After being expelled from the Carnot and Pasteur high schools, he enrolled at the Municipal Conservatory in Paris’s 17th arrondissement. He passed the entrance exam for the Rue Blanche Centre Dramatique at the age of sixteen and was granted an exemption from military service. The following year, in 1969, he entered the Conservatoire National d’Art Dramatique, having come first in the entrance exam. In his third year there, he was unanimously awarded a prize for Excellence but turned down the Comédie Française and joined the Rheims theatre company instead. After many years of acting for the theatre, cinema and television and theatre directing, Jacques Weber made his debut as a feature film director with “Don Juan,” based on the play by Molière.
