Biography

As he recounts in his film "Le Cinéma de Papa," Claude Berri entered the profession by the side door. Producer, director, screenwriter and actor, little by little, he created his body of popular work. His first feature, "The Two of Us," inaugurated a series of autobiographical films. Claude Berri admits to "being one of those filmmakers for whom filmmaking is a kind of psychoanalysis." Then, in 1983, "Tchao Pantin" won him both critical and popular acclaim. He later chose to adapt the major classics of French literature: "Jean de Florette," "Manon of the Spring," "Uranus" and "Germinal". In 1997, he brought to the screen the life of the French resistance fighter "Lucie Aubrac" with Carole Bouquet in the title role, accompanied by Daniel Auteuil. In 1999, he directed "La Débandade," in which he acted alongside Fanny Ardant. Berri has also produced several hit films: Josiane Balasko's "French Twist," Alain Chabat's "Didier," and Claude Zidi's "Asterix and Obeliz vs Cesar." He's producing Alain Chabat's sequel to "Asterix and Obelix."
