Biography

Author and director of several plays, scholarship recipient from the National School of Literature, Guillaume Nicloux was just eighteen-years-old when he started up his own theater company "La Troupe." He got involved with movies in 1990 when he made his first feature film, "The Flying Children" (selected for the Berlin, Montreal, Toronto and Los Angeles film festivals), which he wrote and directed with actress Anémone's assistance. He then directed a TV drama, "Punctured Life" with Michel Piccoli, for the French/German cultural channel Arte before directing his second feature, "Happiness is No Joke" (1995), which was shown at the Cannes International Film Festival in the "Cinéma en France" section, and at the Montreal, Rotterdam and Namur film festivals. "Le Poulpe," with Jean-Pierre Darroussin and Clotilde Courau is his third feature film. Nicloux is also a screenwriter and novelist. His novels include: "Le Saint des seins" (1996, Baleine), "Le Destin est une putain " (1998,Flammarion) and "Jack Mongoly," his latest novel which was published in 1999.
