Biography

After studying at the INSAS Film School in Brussels, Belgium, Benoît Mariage became a reporter-photographer for the newspaper "Vers l’avenir." He then worked for two years on the TV show "Strip-tease," directing half a dozen stories. In 1989 he founded a small production company, Tram 33, designed to develop and produce documentaries. In 1997 he directed a short film, "Le signaleur." Starring Benoît Poelvoorde, it was selected for Critics' Week at the Cannes International Film Festival and won prizes at festivals including Clermont-Ferrand, Barcelona, and Salerno. Mariage's first feature film, "The Carriers are Waiting," was presented at the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes in 1999, as well as at many other film festivals.
