After studying Communications in Grenoble, Jean-Claude Janer, was accepted by the directing department of the FEMIS film school in Paris. He graduated in 1992, and worked as an assistant on Agnès Varda's film, "Jacquot de Nantes." He also directed documentaries and special reports for television station France 3. In 1995, he won an external Villa Medici award for a docu-drama called "Six contes portugais." The following year, he began to script "Superlove" with Hélène Angel, another FEMIS graduate.
