Biography

Albert Dupontel trained as an actor under Antoine Vitez at the Chaillot National Drama School from 1987 to 1989. He made his movie debut in 1987 in Jacques Rivette's "The Gang of Four" and Paul Vecchiali's "Once More." In 1990, he directed and acted in "Sales histoires" ("Dirty Stories"), a series of sketches broadcast on Canal +. After writing his own one-man-show, "Sale spectacle" (1991-1992), he directed a short film, "Désiré" (1992), while still pursuing his movie acting career. He appeared in Jean-Michel Ribes' "Every Man for Yourself" in 1993 and Jacques Audiard's "A Self-Made Hero" in 1995. Also in 1995, he won the Canal + Ecriture screenwriting award for "Bernie," which he directed and starred in the following year. In 1997, he played opposite Michèle Laroque in James Huth's film "Serial Lover." "The Creator" is Dupontel's second feature as actor/director. He also played the lead role in "Sachs' Disease," by Michel Deville.
